HKYWCA and TVB celebrated the Winter Solstice Festival with the elders

HKYWCA and TVB co-organised a programme around the Winter Solstice Festival for elderly living in Sham Shui Po in December last year. Over 700 elders benefited from the programme.

TVB, Staff and Artistes Fund for Charities and Foodlink Foundation held an event in mid-December, to celebrate the Winter Solstice Festival with more than 100 elderly. Artists including Bowie Wu, Samantha Chuk Man Kwan, Anderson Junior, Joe Junior, Helen Ng Heung Lun, Zoie Tam Hoi Ki etc. played little games from Enjoy Yourself Tonight (better known as E.Y.T.), one of the longest-running variety shows in Hong Kong. The participants enjoyed playing very much as the games reminded them of the good old days.

Besides the star-studded event, TVB also sponsored the Association to provide festival dishes like braised shiitake mushroom, squab and fish tripe soup to around 600 elders. Each elder also received a set of vouchers which allow them to enjoy soups, rice and herbal tea.

HKYWCA centres participated in the “festival dishes programme” included:
Ming Yue District Elderly Community Centre
Ming Yue Integrated Home Care Services Team
Ellen Li District Elderly Community Centre
Ellen Li Integrated Home Care Services Team
Chi Po Neighbourhood Elderly Centre
Kowloon City Integrated Home Care Services Team
Sham Shui Po Integrated Home Care Services Team
Lam Woo Memorial Day Care Centre for the Elderly
Y Care Day Care Centre for the Elderly (Eastern District)
Y Care Day Care Centre for the Elderly (Yau Yat Chuen)
NWS Y Care Day Care Centre for the Elderly (North District)

The Association would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to TVB for their support. The programme did not only whet the elders’ appetite, but was also gratifying in such festive occasion.
