HKYWCA organised a carnival to promote transgenerational harmony

Supported by Social Welfare Department’s “Opportunities for the Elderly Project” (OEP), the Association’s Shatin Integrated Social Service Centre launched a programme to foster transgenerational harmony. A carnival was held to spread the importance of an inclusive society.

More than 20 teenagers and elders joined a series of social activities, including training workshop, solitary elderly visit, day camp, Tai O tour, etc. They introduced what they know and like to each other. For example, the teenagers showed the elders popular board games, and in return, the elders shared traditional Hong Kong cultures to the youngsters. Hence, they built a close relationship and learnt to appreciate the culture of different generations.

In addition, the Association held a carnival to promote the message of transgenerational harmony in the community. Participants of the programme were invited to design different game booths with what they had learnt, e.g. a bowling game to help eliminate negative images about elderly, a quiz to introduce idioms of different generations, etc.

Over 500 citizens joined the events with their family members. We were honored to have Prof. Lee Tze Fan, Diana, JP, Chairman of Advisory Committee of OEP, Dr. Elsie Hui, Mr. Ho Chu Ping and Mr. Chan Wan Mow, OEP’s Advisory Committee members, Mr. Junior Anderson, MH, OEP’s Ambassador and Mrs. Gloria Lee, District Social Welfare Officer (Sha Tin) of Social Welfare Department to attend the event.
