Founded in 1971, the Y.W.C.A Hioe Tjo Yoeng College (HTYC) had celebrated its 45th anniversary with a series of events since last November. A thanksgiving mass and a fun fair were held in November, followed by a fund-raising walk before Christmas. The celebrations ended with a variety show and an anniversary dinner last month.
Over 2,000 community partners, friends, and school members gathered in HTYC on November 20, to share the fruitful development of the school and accomplishments of the students. Except the introductory sharing sessions about HTYC, visitors were amazed by the talents of the students shown in the water-rocket design competition, laboratory workshops, music performances, booth games, and display of students’ assignments.
The fund-raising walk was held on December 21, aiming to build up resources for upgrading teaching and learning facilities, as a respond to the diverse needs of the students. Although the weather was overcast with outbreaks of drizzle, participants enjoyed the Peak Circle Walk.
January 20 was the last day of the celebrations. A spectacular anniversary variety show, starring wonderful students, remarkable alumni, and skillful teachers, was held in the afternoon in the School Hall. In the evening, a dinner reception was organised and traditional Chinese paintings and antiques donated by teachers and alumni were auctioned to raise funds.
HTYC will continue to offer, in a Christian context, an all-rounded education that encourages and enhances the development and growth of the students morally, academically, physically, socially, aesthetically, and spiritually, and promotes their sense of commitment to the community and mankind.
