Chefs from Grand Hyatt Hong Kong cooked for elders in Sham Shui Po
 
 

Since 2014, the Association has received sponsorship from TRaiNX Charity Foundation to train housewives in Sham Shui Po as volunteers to prepare free lunches to elders in the district once a week. We are glad that with Foodlink Foundation joining us last year, fruits collected from hotels are now available to be distributed to the elders.

Staff from Grand Hyatt Hong Kong, including the Executive Chef and Executive Sous Chef visited Chi Po Neighbourhood Elderly Centre last month. They prepared red wine braised beef, steamed halibut with black bean sauce, and soup with tomatoes, potatoes and salmon bones for the elderly. 

The beef and salmon bones were surplus food from the hotel. Yet, they were hygienic and edible. With the chefs’ incredible cooking skills, and other ingredients like red wine, onions, carrots, tomatoes, etc., they all tasted delicious. Halibut was also served as it is boneless and has a fresh and clean taste.

While the chefs were busy in the kitchen, a group of women who volunteered in preparing meals every week observed by the side and were eager to learn from the chefs. Staff from the hotel and Foodlink did not stand idle, but had drawing games with the elders, and sent out small gifts, filling the elderly centre with happiness.
